Reconstruction of Švenčionys Wastewater Treatment Plant

Project value ~ 4M
Completion deadline Q4, 2023
Client UAB Vilniaus vandenys

About the client

UAB Vilniaus vandenys is the largest water treatment company in Lithuania, supplying drinking water and processing wastewater for nearly 300,000 clients while adhering to the highest environmental protection standards. The company operates within the Vilnius City Municipality, as well as the territories of Vilnius, Švenčionys, and Šalčininkai District Municipalities.

UAB Vilniaus vandenys exclusively sources groundwater from deepwater boreholes, ranging from 40 to 245 meters in depth. The company supplies approximately 89,000 m3 of water and processes over 107,000 m3 of wastewater per day.

Among the company’s eight treatment plants, the Švenčionys Wastewater Treatment Plant is equipped with machinery dating back to 1970. However, ongoing reconstruction efforts are being carried out to meet current wastewater treatment requirements.

INFES work

INFES constructed a treatment plant with the capacity to process 1,000 m3 of wastewater daily. The plant was equipped with mechanical machinery designed to contain sediment and remove sand, and grease. Additionally, tertiary cleaning machinery was installed, providing an extra cleaning stage to optimize waste treatment.

Apart from the treatment facilities, INFES established a dispatch center, domestic facilities, a mechanical workshop, and a laboratory within the technological building.

Significance of the project

The Švenčionys Wastewater Treatment Plant serves the densely populated and rapidly expanding territory of Švenčionys City. Before the reconstruction, the company encountered challenges in meeting its commitments to customers and environmental standards. However, upon completion of the project, the plant can now ensure high-quality services and achieve excellent wastewater treatment indicators.

Following the reconstruction of the treatment plant, its machinery will be capable of receiving and cleaning the wastewater produced by approximately 1,000 new residents.

Results

Following the reconstruction, wastewater treatment has significantly improved in effectiveness and environmental friendliness. The expanded capacity of the wastewater treatment plant has facilitated the company’s ability to provide high-quality services to the residents of Švenčionys.
