About the client
Klaipėda City Municipality has been located in the west of Lithuania since 1995. It coincides with the city boundaries and includes a stretch of coastline along the coast. It has a population of more than 150,000 inhabitants. As of 2017, the city is divided into 55 wards.
Visitors flock to Klaipėda not only for the opportunity to relax by the sea but also for its well-known attractions such as the Sculpture and Lithuanian Maritime Museums, the Dolphinarium, the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre, and many others. However, Atgimimas Square, located at the intersection of Danė and H. Mantas streets in the city’s New Town area, is neglected and no longer pleasing. Reconstruction works are planned to transform it into a modern, functional space that will beautify the city center.
INFES work
The plan is to renovate Atgimimas Square by creating green areas, installing pavement lighting, and making space for future outdoor cafés. It will also aim to improve the accessibility of the square. The center of the square will be accentuated by a flat map of Klaipėda’s historical layout, around which an amphitheater will be built.
The renovation will also address the lack of parking spaces in this part of the city by creating a two-story, 231-space underground car park beneath part of Atgimimas Square.
Results
After the works are completed, it is expected that Atgimimas Square will become a popular leisure area for the residents of Klaipėda and a suitable place for cafes and various gatherings. The underground car park in the central part of the city will provide convenience for visitors and residents alike, and parking spaces are also essential for the nearby Klaipėda State Music Theatre and its visitors.
