The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre is a state theatre located in Vilnius, Lithuania. Its current building was built in 1981 according to a design by architects Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvyčiai and Janina Marozienė. For this they received the USSR State award.

October 6, 1940, is considered the beginning of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. At that time, the theatre operated as the Vilnius City Theatre, and later, from 1944 to 1947, it was called the Vilnius State Drama Theatre. In 1947 it was renamed the Lithuanian State Drama Theatre, and in 1955 – the Lithuanian State Academic Drama Theatre. On 3 August 1998, it became the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre.

INFES work

Reconstruction and modernization of the theatre, which is included in the list of cultural heritage objects, was carried out. The main hall, which has a capacity of 665 seats, and the small hall, which has a capacity of 200 seats, were reconstructed and modernized while preserving the heritage architecture.

A new hall with a capacity of around 350 seats and a superstructure housing a café were built. More than 13,000 m² of the theatre’s administrative and production premises were renovated and modernized. The heating, ventilation, water supply, and electricity networks were replaced. The building’s heating, ventilation, lighting, and access controls were digitized.

Results

After completing the reconstruction, with all three auditoriums now open the theatre can accommodate more than 1,100 people per evening, as the building has significantly increased in size. The theatre has also become more functional, modern, and convenient, while preserving the heritage of the architects Nasvyčiai.
