Reconstruction works at the Vilnius Congress Hall, Phase 1

Project value ~ 11M
Completion deadline Q4, 2023
Client Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra

About the client

Vilnius Congress Hall is a cultural landmark in the Old Town of Vilnius. The building took 10 years to construct from 1989, and although it was originally intended to be a political education centre, it was finally handed over to the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra in 1999.

However, the building was not suitable for the orchestra’s activities and for symphonic music events: as the congress hall was designed for conferences, the acoustics were adversely affected by various architectural decisions. For this reason, the building needed to be renovated, to which Infes contributed.

INFES work

This phase includes the construction and installation of building structures, waterproofing, roofing, and finishing works. Additionally, it encompasses the development of essential infrastructure such as water supply, sewage disposal, and heat supply systems. The installation of comprehensive engineering networks, including heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, is also being carried out. Moreover, this phase involves extensive electrical engineering work, the installation of security alarms, building electrical systems, process control and automation systems, as well as fire safety engineering systems.

Significance of the project

The Vilnius Congress Hall is now one of the most attractive concert venues in the Baltic States, which will significantly contribute to the promotion of symphonic music and attract visitors from all over the world. In this modern space, music lovers can enjoy the special acoustics designed especially for symphonic music, which were created by the teams of both Lithuanians and one of the world’s most renowned acousticians, Prof. habil. dr. Wolgang Ahnert.

Results

Following the completion of the reconstruction, Vilnius Congress Hall has become one of the largest and most modern concert venues in Lithuania. The hall can accommodate as many as 984 spectators, and the infrastructure is accessible to visitors with disabilities. The renovated space features state-of-the-art acoustic, stage, lighting, ventilation and heating solutions. The acoustics of the concert hall are adapted for symphonic music events, with solutions for the time delay, sound reflections and sound structure, the volume of the hall and the number of seats in the audience.
