About the client
In 1920, the Lithuanian Society of Art Creators established the current National Opera and Ballet Theatre in the temporary capital of Lithuania Kaunas. It premiered Verdi’s La Traviata on New Year’s Eve. In 1948, the Opera and Ballet Theatre was moved from Kaunas to the theatre on J. Basanavičiaus Street in Vilnius, and 26 years later – to the new building on A. Vienuolio Street. On July 1, 1998, the theatre was declared a national institution and became the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Infes work
The orchestra pit lifting mechanisms are being renewed. The acoustic coating of the walls and floor of the orchestra pit is also being reconstructed to improve the sound quality. The replacement of the lifting mechanisms of the orchestra pit will result in a change in the configuration of the pit, which will allow different groups of instruments to be positioned at different heights.
Results
The reconstruction will allow listeners to hear the quieter instruments better. Also, the slight increase in size of the orchestra pit will also make it more comfortable for symphony musicians to perform.
