About the client

The Samogitian Museum “Alka” was officially established in 1932, although the preservation of exhibits began much earlier. In 1931, the Amateur Society of Ancient Samogitians “Alka” was founded during a meeting in Telšiai, which established the museum. Initially, it was housed in three rooms of a residential house. The valuables preserved in Telšiai attracted the attention of scientists and folk-art researchers, and in 1937 the museum was moved to a building built specifically for this purpose. At that time, it was the only new museum building in the Lithuanian province.

INFES work

The museum is undergoing roof repairs, facade reconstruction, and insulation works. The foundations are also being insulated and waterproofed. The building’s internal engineering systems are also being replaced, the interior premises are being renovated and the cultural elements stored inside are being restored.

Significance of the project

The Samogitian Museum “Alka” is the most important museum in Telšiai for the history of the ethnographic region of Samogitia, which the most comprehensively reveals the distinctive development of the history of Samogitia. The museum introduces the nature of the region, people’s everyday life and a rich collection of works of art. The renovation of the museum building is extremely important for the preservation of Lithuanian heritage, providing an opportunity to get to know a significant part of Lithuanian history in comfortable conditions. The reconstruction of the building will help preserve the exhibits intact for future generations.

Results

The building, which has been standing for more than 8 decades, is visited by thousands of Lithuanian and foreign guests every year. The renovated building will provide visitors with more comfortable access to the exhibitions and staff with better working conditions. The renovated rooms will be warmer and will provide a more pleasant experience for visitors attending exhibitions, performances, night tours, and other events.
