About the client
Vilnius City Municipality is located in the south-east of Lithuania and controls 21 districts. It operates according to key priorities: to develop and implement the city’s strategic vision, to provide quality services to residents, to attract investment, to act transparently and timely, and to be open to residents, visitors, and investors. Meanwhile, its administrative centre Vilnius has won 10 Eurocities Awards as the fastest developing city.
The stadium at Mykolas Biržiška Gymnasium has been transferred to the Centre of Excellence for Sports Infrastructure Planning, Development, Maintenance, and Operations – Active Vilnius. Following the reconstruction of the sports facilities, a range of sports activities and football club competitions will be held there.
INFES work
Reconstruction works include a football pitch with an artificial heated surface, adequate lighting, benches for substitute players—at least 14 seats per team and a rain cover. Also, a plastic-coated metal net with ball catchers behind the goals. There will be 200 seats in the spectator stands, a new fence surrounding the grounds, and a security camera system.
Two basketball courts and one multi-purpose court are planned. The multi-purpose basketball courts will be easily transformable and suitable for various activities such as badminton or tennis. The sports courts will be equipped with lighting, benches, and waste bins.
Depending on the development of the site, an optimal, low-maintenance ancillary building is also being designed for servicing the sports facilities and visitors.
Results
After the completion of the planned works, Vilnius will have a modern and well-maintained sports complex, with fields designed for safe play. Notably, it will be the city’s first stadium with a heated surface. The new facility is expected to promote increased participation in physical education and encourage the organization of games and competitions in different sports.
