About the client
Vilniaus vystymo kompanija, UAB, is owned by the Vilnius City Municipality and implements public-interest projects of strategic importance to the capital. The company plans and develops urban areas and public spaces, coordinates design and construction processes, and manages the Municipality’s real estate portfolio.
One of the company’s projects is the development of Mammoth Valley (Mamutų slėnis), located between Geležinio Vilko and Ukmergės streets. Its concept was inspired by the area’s geological history and mammoth bones discovered in the vicinity of the Šeškinė Hills. Vilnius is the only European capital located on the boundary of the last Ice Age, and the future educational space will give visitors an opportunity to explore the landscape shaped by glaciers. At the same time, an area that has so far been inaccessible to visitors will become easier to reach and explore.
Infes work
Infes will prepare the detailed construction design and carry out the construction works across all three stages of the project. The main part of Mammoth Valley will feature pedestrian paths, an elevated trail running above the valley, a pedestrian bridge, a viewing platform, educational areas and an outdoor toilet. The area will also include the main entrance from Geležinio Vilko Street and an upper-level connection to Ozo Street.
The second stage of the works will cover the area alongside Geležinio Vilko Street, where pedestrian paths, a staircase, and a recreation area will be created. In the southwestern part of the site, between Ukmergės Street and the plot designated for a planned multifunctional centre, the path network will be extended, with additional recreation areas and two viewing platforms.
Across the entire site, Infes will also install transport infrastructure and utility networks. When the construction is complete, the company will carry out the necessary completion procedures and arrange for the project facilities to be registered in the Real Estate Register.
Results
Once the project is finished, a continuous route will run through Mammoth Valley, connecting the future multifunctional centre and Šeškinė with Šnipiškės, the central part of the city and the Old Town.
At the same time, existing trees and natural habitats will be preserved, wildflower meadows restored, and invasive herbaceous plants removed. More sensitive areas will be kept outside visitor routes, allowing them to remain undisturbed habitats for wildlife.
