About the client
Renovation of old Lithuanian police buildings has been ongoing for some time. New buildings replace buildings in poor condition that are no longer suitable for the performance of state functions. The aim is to provide the police with buildings that meet the needs of work and service to the public. The 5th police station is one of the first Turto bankas’ projects designed by using the building information modelling (BIM) method. This allows for the preservation of all building-related information which can be used later during the building’s life cycle.
INFES work
The building is being constructed on the newly designed section of Sietynas Street, near the Vilnius Western Bypass. The new police station will consist of a modern 6-story, 9,756.50 m² building. Just over half of it (5,300 m²) will be occupied by the A++ energy class administrative part of the building, while the remaining 4,500 m² will be occupied by a two-level underground parking lot.
The new police station will be sustainable, with a solar power plant on the roof to meet some of the building’s energy needs. Heat pumps will be installed on the site. The parking lot will be equipped with 4 charging stations for electric cars. Two surface parking lots will also be built next to the building. The surrounding transport infrastructure will also be improved with a 300-metre two-lane roadway as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths for the convenience of residents and employees.
Results
The new building will house 560 modern workplaces and become the headquarters of the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat and the Police Department under the Ministry of Interior. This building will become one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the state, using heat and electricity from renewable sources. It will be constructed with the comfort of employees and visitors in mind and with focus on ensuring its functionality. The grounds and the whole building will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
