UAB Vilniaus vystymo kompanija is a municipal company owned by the City of Vilnius, responsible for delivering and managing public infrastructure projects across the capital. Its activities include urban planning, the development of public spaces, and the management of design and construction projects for municipal education, healthcare, social services, sports, culture, and tourism facilities. The company also oversees the municipality’s real estate portfolio and school buildings.
The reconstruction of the primary education campus of Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium, located at 1A Miglos Street, is one of the projects contributing to the modernisation of Vilnius’ educational infrastructure. Originally built in 1970, the school will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction and expansion, nearly doubling its total floor area.
Infes work
Using Building Information Modelling (BIM), Infes will prepare the detailed design and carry out the reconstruction of the school building. The project also includes the completion of all statutory construction procedures and the registration of the completed development in the Real Estate Register.
Following reconstruction, the building will offer a total floor area of 3,943.16 sq m. It will comprise three two-storey wings connected by a shared basement. The basement will accommodate support facilities and a dining hall, while part of it will be designated as a civil protection shelter. The ground floor will include learning spaces and a multi-purpose sports hall, with additional classrooms located on the first floor.
The different sections of the building will be linked by a central hall with an amphitheatre. The school grounds will be upgraded with basketball and football courts, playgrounds, outdoor learning areas, and pedestrian pathways. The project also includes the reconstruction of a 112-metre section of the street adjacent to the school, together with a nine-space car park.
Results
Once completed, the reconstructed A++ energy efficiency class school building will be nearly twice its original size and provide space for approximately 384 pupils. The upgraded primary education campus will offer modern facilities for learning, sports, dining, outdoor education, and community activities.
Selected sports and outdoor facilities will also be accessible to the local community. Both the building and its surrounding areas will be fully accessible to people with disabilities.
