About the client
The State Border Guard Service at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania ensures the protection of the Lithuanian border on land, at sea, in the Curonian Lagoon, and in inland border waters. The Service also implements state border guard policy, helps prevent criminal activities, and ensures adherence to international agreements. Some of its main functions include managing the migration process, issuing visas and other permits to cross the state border, maintaining public order in border areas, and others.
Kopgalis quays, located at Smiltynės St. 2A and 2B, Klaipėda, are operated by the State Border Guard Service. The Service’s ships and motorboats are moored at the quays to carry out its functions. Currently, the quay cannot accommodate ships of different sizes, and the Service is limited to mooring only two of its vessels for safety reasons.
Infes work
The construction work involves the complete demolition of the current pier, which is not suitable for safe vessel mooring. The waterfront will be cleared once the demolition is complete. The new quays will feature arch-type fenders of a simple and sturdy design, ensuring a reliable fender system.
Stairs with landings will be installed to provide a safe and easy access to the pier for passengers of recreational vessels moored at the quays.
Results
The new Kopgalis quays will allow the Service to moor state border guard ships and motorboats of different sizes, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted operations. A section of the quays will be adapted for recreational vessels transporting passengers to Smiltynė.
